Google has selected the companies for its first Google for Startups Accelerator: Voice AI program and a Vancouver startup has been included in the inaugural cohort of twelve.

The three-month program is a digital accelerator for Seed to Series A technology startups based in North America. The accelerator program is designed to bring the best of Google’s programs, products, people, and technology to the most innovative and impactful voice technology companies across the region.

Four Canadian startups made the list including Vancouver’s own SiMBi.

SiMBi combines learners’ narrations with the text of a story to create an engaging audiovisual book that learners around the world can read along to.

Simbi exists to empower people to “read for good,” in both the context of lifelong learning and a desire to create positive social impact. Their products make reading meaningful by enabling our readers to read along and read aloud to a growing library of books and seamlessly access the world’s largest repository of culturally-diverse narrator accents.

In addition to mentorship and technical project support, the Google accelerator will focus on product design, customer acquisition, and leadership development for founders.
